GNM Course Eligibility: Can You Apply for General Nursing & Midwifery?

GNM stands for General Nursing and Midwifery. It is a 3-year diploma program that trains individuals to become nurses and midwives. To be eligible for the GNM program, you must meet the following criteria:
  • Educational Qualification: You must have completed 10+2 from a recognized board with a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in English individually.
  • Age Limit: You must be at least 17 years old and not more than 35 years old as of December 31st of the year in which you are seeking admission. However, there is relaxation in the upper age limit for SC/ST candidates by 5 years.
  • Physical Fitness: You must be physically and mentally fit to pursue the nursing profession.
  • Entrance Exam: Some states and institutions conduct their own entrance exams for GNM admission.

  • Additional Eligibility Criteria for Some States:
  • Odisha: Candidates must have passed Odia as a subject at M.E./H.S.C. Examination and must be permanent residents of Odisha.
  • West Bengal: Candidates must be Indian citizens and must have passed or be appearing for the 10+2 examination in 2024.
